Community rules
Rift Haul is a galaxy you share. Rob a hauler, undercut a rival, wreck a pirate: that's the game. Making the game miserable for the people playing it isn't. These rules cover the second part.
They apply everywhere you can write something: chat, mail, pilot names and anything else in the game. Next to each rule is what normally happens if you break it. For serious cases we may go further, up to a ban, and if you keep breaking the rules, each time will be dealt with more firmly.
What we can do: remove a message (it disappears for everyone) · mute you for 1 hour, 1 day or 7 days (no chat, no mail) · rename your pilot · suspend your account for 1, 7 or 30 days · ban it for good. You'll be told in the game what we did and why.
How you treat people
1. Harassment: mute, then suspension. Trash talk about the game is fine. Going after a person isn't: abuse, insults that are meant to hurt, or following someone around the galaxy to wreck their game. If you can avoid it by blocking someone, block them. If blocking doesn't stop it, it's harassment, so report it.
2. Threats: ban. Any threat of real-world harm, to a player or anyone else, even as a "joke".
3. Hate: mute or suspension; ban if extreme. Nothing that attacks people for their race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, nationality or anything else about who they are. That includes slurs, symbols and pilot names.
4. Unsuitable content: suspension; ban if aimed at a young player. Rift Haul is made for adults, but players can be as young as 13. No sexual content, no graphic violence, and no encouraging self-harm or anything illegal. Dodging the rule with misspellings counts.
5. Sharing personal details: message removed; mute if you keep doing it. Don't share your real name, address, phone number, email, school, social media or anyone else's. Chat can be seen by everyone in the galaxy, and you never really know who you're mailing.
6. Trying to move people off the game: suspension; ban if aimed at a young player. Don't ask other players, especially younger ones, to talk privately somewhere else, meet up or send you anything. Mail exists so nobody has to, and it won't send email addresses, phone numbers or links.
7. Unwanted mail: mute. If someone doesn't reply, or tells you to stop, stop.
8. Spam and advertising: message removed and mute. No flooding chat or inboxes, no links to sell things, no recruiting for other games.
9. Pretending to be us: rename and mute; ban if you use it to trick someone. Don't impersonate staff, moderators or Dispatch.
10. Asking for someone's password: ban. Nobody at Rift Haul will ever ask for it, and nor should anyone else. Don't hand yours over either.
Fair play
11. Extra accounts: extra accounts banned, main account suspended. One pilot per player per world, unless we've said otherwise. Don't use extra accounts to feed credits or cargo to your main pilot.
12. Cheating: suspension; ban if you keep doing it. No bots, scripts, automation or tools that play for you or give you an unfair edge.
13. Bugs: report them, don't farm them. Suspension; ban if you keep doing it. If you find something broken that hands out credits, ships or anything else, tell us. Deliberately exploiting it is cheating.
14. Real-money trading: ban. Credits, ships and items can't be bought or sold for real money, or for anything outside the game.
15. Attacking the game: ban. Don't attack, overload or try to break into the game or other players' accounts.
16. Pilot names: rename. Names follow the same rules as everything else. Repeat offenders get muted too.
If something goes wrong
If someone is breaking these rules, or makes you feel unsafe:
- Report it. Every chat message and every mail has a Report button. One click, no form. A person at Rift Haul will look at it.
- Block them. You can block any pilot from their mail or their profile. Their mail stops reaching you, and they aren't told.
- Or email support@rifthaul.com with the pilot's name, the world and roughly when it happened.
If you're worried about your safety in real life, tell a parent, carer or someone you trust too. If we think someone is at risk of harm, we may tell the authorities.
If you think we've got it wrong
Reply to our message in the game, or email support@rifthaul.com, and a person will look at it again.
