Terms of service

Last updated: 3 October 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and us when you play Rift Haul. By creating a pilot, as a guest or with an account, you agree to them. Please read them; we've kept them as short and plain as we could.

1. Who we are

Rift Haul is run by Azorius Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12860331), whose registered office is 3 Church Street, Odiham, Hook, Hampshire, RG29 1LU ("we", "us"). You can reach us at support@rifthaul.com.

2. Who can play

  • Rift Haul is made for adults. You must be 13 or older to play.
  • If you're under 18, please make sure a parent or carer is happy for you to play and has read these terms with you. Parents: Rift Haul has smuggling, bounties and ship combat (no gore), and players can chat and mail each other, so please talk to your child about staying safe online.
  • You can only use one pilot per world, unless we say otherwise.

3. Your account

  • You can play as a guest without an email address. A guest pilot lasts 7 days from when it's created. Register before then to keep it.
  • Guests can read in-game mail but can't send it. Registering unlocks sending.
  • If you register, keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
  • Accounts belong to one world. Each world in Rift Haul is separate, so a pilot on Sirius is a different account from a pilot on any other world.
  • You can delete your account at any time from inside the game (see our Privacy Policy). Deletion is immediate and can't be undone.

4. The game is free to play

  • Rift Haul is free to play. Nothing in the game can be bought with real money.
  • Credits, ships, cargo and everything else in the game have no real-world value. They're part of the game, they belong to the game, and they can't be sold, traded or exchanged for money or anything outside the game. Your pilot and everything in its hold are a licence to use the game, not property you own.

5. AI pilots

Some of the pilots in Rift Haul are controlled by the game, not by people. They play alongside everyone else, and any chat from them uses pre-written lines, not generative AI. You can send them mail, but they don't reply. They are not marked as AI pilots in the game, so you can't always tell which pilots are people and which aren't. We never count them as players when we talk about how many people play Rift Haul.

6. Player against player

  • Other pilots can attack you. That's part of the game.
  • A ship destroyed in the game is lost. If it was your only ship, you'll be given a basic starter ship so you can keep playing. We don't refund or restore anything you lose through normal play, including to other pilots.
  • If you lose something because of a bug on our side, tell us and we'll look into it, but we can't promise to restore it.

7. The beta

  • Before launch, Rift Haul runs as a public beta on the Sirius world.
  • Your beta progress carries over into launch. We won't wipe Sirius at launch.
  • During the beta the game is still being built. Things will change, break and get fixed, and the game is provided as it is, without any promise that it will always be available or free of errors.

8. Sirius is a permanent world

Sirius is a permanent world: it doesn't reset. We may open other worlds alongside it in future, and they may run under different rules. If we do, we'll say how a world works before you join it.

9. Rules of conduct

Our Community Rules are part of these terms, and they apply to chat and mail alike. If you break them, we may remove what you wrote, warn you, mute you (which stops both chat and mail), rename your pilot, suspend your account or ban it. You'll be told in the game what we did and why. We'll be fair about it, and you can ask for a decision to be looked at again by replying to our message in the game or emailing support@rifthaul.com.

You can report any chat message or mail from inside the game, and block any pilot so their mail stops reaching you.

10. What's ours and what's yours

  • The game, its art, music, writing, code and world belong to us. You may share screenshots and videos of your own play, including on streams and video sites.
  • Chat messages and mail you write are yours, but you give us permission to show and deliver them in the game, and to remove them. A moderator may read a mail that's been reported (see our Privacy Policy).

11. Changes and availability

  • We're constantly changing the game: adding things, rebalancing things and fixing things. Changes may affect your pilot, ships or credits.
  • We may need to take the game offline for maintenance, or close a world. If we ever close a world for good, we'll give as much notice as we reasonably can.
  • If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the game before the change takes effect. If you keep playing afterwards, you're accepting the new terms. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.

12. Our responsibility to you

  • We'll provide the game with reasonable care and skill.
  • Because the game is free, and because of the nature of an online game, we aren't responsible for losses you can't reasonably expect us to foresee, or for lost in-game items, credits or progress.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

13. Ending the agreement

  • You can stop playing and delete your account at any time.
  • We can suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.

14. The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
